Founded in 1980, the National Folk Artistic Group Nerush consists of the students and employees of the Belarusian State University and other institutions and universities.

Since the very foundation, the Group has been engaged in collecting of samples of national music, songs and traditions of different Belarusian regions, later used as a basis for a various programmes. Thus, for instance, «Kaliady Plays» is a staging of ancient holiday, devoted to Celebration of Christmas times; «Belaruskae Viaselle» is the programme reflecting specialties of wedding ceremony in Belarus, etc. In 1985, the Nerush Group was awarded with the title «National» for high creative work and mastery

In 1999 the Group was awarded with the Prize of the Year «For a Contribution to the Development of Foreign Culture Relationships of the Republic of Belarus».

For 27-year history of Nerush more than 200 people, true amateurs of folk art, have been active participants of the Group.

There are 5 different sets of folk-dress for each performer in Nerush. Each set reflects different historical periods and ethnological regions of Belarus. Most of clothes’ sets are handmade by the best craftsmen of our country.

Nerush is a group of talented singers, dancers and musicians. The main musical instruments in the orchestra group are the following: violin, viola, base, cembalo, bayan, harmonica, pipes, fife, lyre and other authentic instruments.

The women’s part of the Group possesses an ancient style of national singing and performs the ancient song ballads, harvest songs, spring round dance songs, etc., which have very deep roots. The Group consists of 25 participants now.

Moreover, the Group runs a project, called Folk Media Group Nerush, consisting of five singers, which presents traditional folk music in a contemporary arrangement. It is highly popular in Belarus now.
